History

In 1972, Nigel Bester, Principal of the Surespan Group of Companies, immigrated to Vancouver, BC from Grahamstown, South Africa.

After 5 years of working as a labourer and a foreman for a well-known resource bridge builder on Vancouver Island, Nigel made the decision to start his own bridge construction business.

By 1978, Nigel had bought his first 25 ton crane and formed a complete bridge building crew. As a bridge building contractor that originally catered to the forestry industry, Surespan Construction found initial success by safely erecting bridges in remote, environmentally sensitive areas throughout BC.

To date, Surespan Construction has become a recognized specialist in permanent and portable bridge supply and construction in the resource sector. For the past 30 years Nigel and his team of expert bridgemen have pioneered unique bridge building systems and structural erection techniques that have brought the company many accomplishments.

Surespan Construction has expanded over the years, venturing into commercial, institutional and marine precast concrete design, supply and installation as well as work in land and marine-based pile driving.
